The Safe Zone program is a symbol of this University’s commitment to diversity and inclusiveness. The purpose of Safe Zone is to create a visible network of allies for individuals who may be marginalized on the basis of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. All UNC faculty, staff, and students are eligible to become Safe Zone allies. Training takes place several times a semester. Safe Zone training is a four (4) hour program open to all UNC-CH community members. The training will:
• Raise awareness of issues faced by LGBTQ individuals
• Introduce participants to LGBTQ terminology
• Present strategies for being an ally to LGBTQ persons
• Present resources relevant to LGBTQ individuals
