The Women in Science (WinS) group at UNC-Chapel Hill, sponsored by the Training Initiatives in Biomedical & Biological Sciences (TIBBS) program, focuses on supporting, promoting, and encouraging the continued success and leadership development of women in the science fields.  We are pleased to announce our inaugural event of the 2014-2015 academic year, “Stepping Up, Not Stepping Aside”.

UNC has recently had the unique opportunity to have a female scientist lead our university. On October 13th at 1:00 pm in the Kirkland Auditorium in the Koury Oral Health Sciences Building, we have the privilege and distinct honor to hear from our very own Chancellor Folt as she addresses her steps taken as a female scientist to become the first woman Chancellor at Carolina. We invite all graduate and undergraduate students, postdoctoral fellows, faculty and staff to attend. Chancellor Folt obtained her doctorate in Ecology from the University of California-Davis, performed postdoctoral studies at Michigan State University, and conducted extensive research in metal toxicity at Dartmouth. She will give a short presentation followed by a Q&A session, and a reception will follow for all registered attendees. For more information, send an email to wins@unc.edu or register using the button below.

Co-sponsored by UNC Women in Science, TIBBS, the Office of Graduate Education, the Graduate School, the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, and Dr. Barbara Rimer, Dean of the Gilllings School of Public Health.
