About the Speaker:
Dr. Patricia Phelps is a Genomics Education Specialist at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, DC.  She is the Lead Educator on the exhibit team for the Genome:Unlocking Life's Code Exhibit and is responsible for the integration of genomics throughout the museum's education programs and outreach.  Prior to joining the Smithsonian, Pat was the Deputy Director of the NIH Graduate Partnerships Program where she developed innovative training programs and workshops in translational medicine, health disparities, professional development and career awareness for postbaccs, grad students, and postdocs.
Here at UNC, we know and love Pat as the Founding Director of our Science, Training, and Diversity Office where she directed IMSD, PREP, K-12 science outreach, and professional & career development workshops for grad students.  Before her academic career, Pat was Senior Director of Global Product Development and Marketing for a biotechnology company where she gained extensive experience in developing collaborations and implementing strategic plans.  Pat received her PhD in Physiology at North Carolina State University and is a proud Wolfpack alumna.
