JOIN US as we showcase the outstanding biomedical research efforts of our diverse graduate students here at UNC through oral and poster presentations.  Following the presentations and keynote address by Nina Salama Ph.D., awards will honor the most outstanding poster presentations and the IMSD Mentor of the Year.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Nina Salama is a Principal Investigator at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (FHCRC) in the Division of Human Biology and an Affiliate Professor of Microbiology at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA.  Dr. Salama received a B.S. in Honors Biology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California at Berkeley.  She completed her postdoctoral research on Helicobacter pylori genetics in the laboratory of Stanley Falkow, Ph.D. at Stanford University.  Dr. Salama established her research lab at FHCRC in 2001 and has since focused research efforts on H. pylori pathogenesis.  Currently, the Salama lab investigates how H. pylori DNA metabolism and bacterial cell shape contribute to stomach colonization.
