NC TraCS Team Science Series Overview

Team science is a collaborative effort to address a scientific challenge that leverages the strengths and expertise of professionals trained in different fields. Although traditional single-investigator driven approaches are ideal for many scientific endeavors, coordinated teams of investigators with diverse skills and knowledge may be especially helpful for studies of complex social problems with multiple causes (Team Science Toolkit: An Interactive Website to Help You Support, Conduct, and Study Team Based Research. National Cancer Institute. 21 February 2014).

This three part series is recommended for research trainees, students, staff, and faculty who are interested in interdisciplinary research and want to know how to develop or participate in an interdisciplinary team.  The series as a whole covers some theoretical and practical aspects of successful teams and provides an opportunity to participate in exercises. A participant can benefit from attending any number of the sessions.  Each is self-contained, but covers a different aspect of interdisciplinary teams.

Sponsor: NC Translational and Clinical Sciences Institute (NIH CTSA at UNC-CH)
