AOWS5: The Civil War: Beyond North and South
The Civil War is often thought of as a simple tale of North vs. South by our students-– which it is – but it is also so much more. This class will allow you to explore different perspectives of the conflict as both teacher and student. You will learn how to find primary sources using the Library of Congress and National Archives databases. You will analyze documents, peruse sample lesson plans, and read academic works related to the topic. We will focus on RAFT assignments and Structured Academic Controversies as effective instructional strategies in the teaching of history.
*Course start date subject to change pending minimum enrollment.
