Safe Zone Training for Graduate & Professional Students Return to listing


The LGBTQ Center and Graduate School are sponsoring a Safe Zone training open to all graduate & professional students. The Safe Zone Ally program is a symbol of this University's efforts to increase awareness about and inclusion of the diverse gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer (LGBTIQ) Two Spirit, and Same Gender Loving communities. The purpose of the Graduate & Professional Student Safe Zone training is to address the ways that topics related to sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression come up in classroom settings, curriculum design, and interactions with faculty members and colleagues. Specific topics include:

  • Issues faced by LGBTQ individuals in classroom/academe
  • Current LGBTQ terminology
  • Information about campus climate, policies, and resources
  • Strategies for being an ally to LGBTQ persons.
