The Employee Forum and Carolina Center for Public Service are hosting a relief trip to Goldsboro, NC to help those impacted by Hurricane Florence on Friday, December 14, 2018 from 8:00AM - 5:00 PM! Volunteers will be working at the MERCI Center in Goldsboro to assemble relief supply buckets. MERCI is the Disaster Response and Mission Support Center warehouse where the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) assembles and disseminates hygiene, cleaning and other relief supply kits to disaster-stricken areas. For more details on MERCI, please click here. For more details on UMCOR, click here.

We welcome interested UNC units/departments from across campus to gather their workgroup to participate. Individuals from throughout campus are welcome to participate as well. Please remember that all UNC Staff have Community Service Leave (CSL) available to them for events such as this (with prior supervisor approval)! The Office of State Human Resources also allocated an extra 16 hours of CSL for use in any Florence-related volunteer activity in the aftermath of this disaster. The extra CSL leave expires on December 31, 2018, so this is the perfect opportunity to utilize some of the additional allotment. For more details on the CSL policy, click here.

Breakfast, Lunch and bottled waters will be provided for all of our volunteers, but please bring any other food/drink as desired. We will be meeting at the Carolina Center for Public Service off of Wilson Street at around 7:30 am, where a rental van will transport us to Goldsboro. We will leave Goldsboro around 3:30 pm to return to campus. For those of you that work first shift from 8 am to 5 pm, you will be able to utilize a full 8 hours of Community Service Leave for your efforts (with prior supervisor approval). Please see the below tentative itinerary of the relief trip:

Thank you for your interest in participating! Be ready to work hard, try something new, and pitch in with whatever needs done that day. Most importantly, be prepared to have fun and know that you are directly impacting the lives of hardworking North Carolinians impacted by a devastating hurricane!

Thanks everyone!
