Course description

This course will introduce you to basic web design, accessibility, and usability principles. By applying these simple principles, you’ll make your online course easier for students to navigate and access.

You will learn how much the placement of materials, the use of graphics, and even color and font styles can affect students’ success in your online course. You will also learn a few simple ways to ensure your course meets the basic Americans with Disabilities Act requirements for accessibility. This course does not require any knowledge of HTML.

This course is an elective in the Carolina Online Teacher Program (COLT).

Course objectives

After completing this course, you should be able to design an online course that:

  • is easy to navigate.
  • provides clear instructions to students.
  • correctly uses fonts, color, emphasis and multimedia.
  • effectively uses images and icons.
  • meets basic accessibility requirements according to the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Course information

Course prerequisites
Students should have completed Blackboard or Moodle Training or approved substitute, Teaching Online Courses, and Facilitating Online Collaboration.
Duration
This course runs for four weeks. Our weeks begin midnight on Wednesday and end on midnight Tuesday.
Credits and fee
The course fee is $150.00 and upon successful completion, the student will receive 2.0 CEUs
