Alternative Academic Career Development Workshop Return to listing

This 90-minute workshop, sponsored by the UNC Leadership Development Scholars Program, is designed to provide an introduction to alternative academic, or Altac, careers, to graduate students. Because Altac encompasses all careers that lie within or near to the university that are filled by PhD-trained professionals, this workshop is open to graduate students of all disciplines. It will include a presentation of Altac issues, hands-on activities, and plenty of lively discussion about the challenges facing graduate students at UNC interested in Altac careers.

We’ll be asking questions such as:

  • What are possible Altac careers for PhD students across the disciplines?
  • How can PhD students prepare for alternative academic careers during and after their candidature?
  • What are the main opportunities and challenges associated with alternative academic careers?
