Sisterhood of Empowerment in Academe (SEA), or the Sisterhood, is meant to be a place for women of color to come together, share their lived experiences, and support one another throughout our journey in the academy.

Sister circles have been used in other contexts for black women to work through the ins and outs of their daily lives. We will continue that rich tradition here, to provide affirmation, validation, and support as we all work through this arduous journey called graduate school.   

The winter holiday season has come and gone, and the beginning of a new year is upon us. It can all seem so overwhelming and getting back into the swing of work can be tough. This past year has been especially traumatic, so building community and finding support within others is important. For our first meeting of the semester, we will be reflecting on the past year and planning what we hope this upcoming year will bring all while celebrating and uplifting one another along the way.
