The primary purpose of the Institutional Review Board is to assure that the rights  and welfare of human subjects are protected both in advance of  research implementation and by periodic review once subjects have been enrolled.  In this session, a panel of IRB coordinators will review the most common but avoidable mistakes made in the submission process which cause delay in approval of new studies.   This is a great opportunity to meet the IRB staff in an open forum and have your regulatory matters addressed.

Objectives

  • Highlight common errors that IRB coordinators observe in their review of submissions for IRB review and approval
  • Identify strategies to reduce review time and obtain IRB approval more rapidly
  • Provide links to OHRE resources for staff who prepare IRB submissions

David Borasky, MPH, CIP Deputy Director, Office of Human Research Ethics, will host a discussion focusing on recommendations to reduce contingencies on initial IRB applications.  He will be joined by a panel of IRB Coordinators. This will be a great opportunity to get regulatory issues addressed  so please come prepared with your questions.

Dave  holds a  Bachelors’ degree from LeMoyne College and  Master degree of Public Health from the University of North Carolina. He has held positions as a Research Assistant, Project manager, Clinical Research Coordinator, IRB Chair, and Director of International Research Ethics.
