Principles & Practices of Complementary and Alternative Medicine  (HBEH 960)

Location: UNC Cancer Center main conference room

 

HBEH 960 is a fall-semester course held on Monday evenings, 6:00 PM - 8:50 pm, August 29 - December 5, 2016 (omitting Labor Day). The course location is in the UNC Cancer Center main conference room.  The course has been offered since 1995 to medical and other health-professions students as well as interested faculty and staff involved in health care or health-care research.

The course involves presentations by CAM experts (including local practitioners) on philosophies, practices, and research related to complementary and alternative therapeutics used widely in the U.S., such as mindfulness, hypnosis, biofeedback/neurofeedback, tai chi, qigong, yoga, massage/bodywork therapies, herbal medicine, acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, homeopathy, aromatherapy, functional medicine, chiropractic, and shamanism.  The course includes opportunities for community experiences and discussions about challenges and opportunities for integration into mainstream health care.
